About Humane Society of North Iowa:

"The Humane Society of North Iowa was founded in 1959 by Mason City resident Alice Anne Blackmore.  Alice Anne found homes for and provided care to many animals on her farm and created the beginning foundations of an animal rescue organization in north Iowa. Over the years, our organization grew, evolved, moved, and finally, in 2009, constructed the state-of-the-art facility we currently operate out of. Alice Anne passed away in 2013 at the age of 93; fortunately, she was able to visit  the new shelter before her passing to see her dream finally become a reality.

We have continued Alice Anne’s mission by working hard to find homes for hundreds of abandoned, displaced and neglected animals each and every year. Adoption data going back to the mid-80’s shows that we have found homes for nearly 13,000 animals…and counting! The Humane Society of North Iowa is proud to be a no-kill shelter, meaning we do not  euthanize animals due to a lack of space or the length of time an animal has been in our care."
